In July 2012, Hudaco Industries acquired Deltec after receiving Competition Board approval. This acquisition strengthened Hudaco’s portfolio, which focuses on importing and distributing branded industrial consumable products.
In June 2011, Deltec expanded its operations by opening a national distribution centre in Alrode, accommodating the company’s head office, after outgrowing its previous Sandton facility. To enhance customer service and nationwide reach, Deltec established regional distribution centres in Cape Town (2007), Rustenburg (2009), and Pinetown (2010), with additional depots added in Nelspruit, George, and Port Elizabeth. In 2022, Deltec partnered with local entrepreneurs to launch a branded retail outlet chain.

The company is renowned for supplying high-quality automotive and industrial batteries, including its signature Calcium/Calcium Semi-Sealed Maintenance Free (SSMF) batteries. These SSMF batteries gained popularity in the Standby/UPS market as a cost-effective alternative to traditional 2-volt cells, making this sector a core focus for Deltec.
Automotive and Renewable Energy Leadership
As demand for Deltec’s SSMF batteries grew in the automotive sector, they became the preferred choice for original equipment on new vehicles. Deep cycle batteries have also gained traction in the leisure and special applications markets. Deltec’s product portfolio includes industry-leading brands such as US Battery, OPTIMA, and the trusted Deltec (Delphi) brand known for reliability and durability.
Deltec is at the forefront of technological advancements, offering solutions for hybrid vehicles with its AGM ‘stop/start’ battery technology, which powers 83% of European OE vehicles. Since entering the renewable energy market in 2009, Deltec has partnered with major brands like Victron, TAB, Exide, Sungrow, and Jinko. In 2010, Deltec secured mining contracts with Impala, Harmony, and Sibanye, establishing its presence in the mining sector with vendor status across major mines.
